Hi. According to the law, the hostfamily is actually in their right to deduct the salary, if your friend have extra days of. And no, the hostfamily does not have to give her a day of even though it is official holiday in DK, like pinse kr. himmelfart etc. Your friend have in total 5 weeks vacation, but she have to pay it her selve. The family can deduct the salary, so if she works 5 days a week, they are alloud to deduct 4,8 % from the montly salary per day she has of, and if she works 6 days a week the can deduct 4 %. So it seems to me, that everything is okay. Kindly Tina

Re: about holidays |
It's been my experience in Spain that an au-pair is required to have 2 weeks paid vacation for every 6 months she´s worked. However, it may be different in Denmark. It seems only fair that she has a holiday considering how miniscule the pay is.

Re: about holidays |
I just want to say that I wasnt speaking about, if it was fair or unfair that they deduct the salary. For example I never deduct my au pairs salary when she takes days of. I was only speaking about the official laws and rules about vacation for au pairs. According to that the are aloud to deduct the salary. Just to be sure there are no misunderstandings. personally I also find the law unfair. But that is another story... Yhank you. Tina

Re: about holidays |
thanks for the both of you. I am just glad that not all of the host families are deducting something from their au apirs salary just to take the holidays. But this friend of mine, she is working more than 5 hours and sometimes no day off, that makes it not good.
"The family can deduct the salary, so if she works 5 days a week, they are alloud to deduct 4,8 % from the montly salary per day she has of, and if she works 6 days a week the can deduct 4 %. " is this rule written in the contract or is it written in the Udlændingeservice website? I haven't read as such.
